Data Security – cryptographic basis. Lecturer Martti Penttonen (University of Kuopio)
The course introduces to most important secret key cryptosystems (AES, Blowfish), public key cryptosystems (RSA, Elliptic Curves) and hash methods (MD5, SHA) with moderate mathematical exactness. Various authentication protocols (Kerberos, X.509) and data security software (ssh, SET, IPsec, VPN etc) are covered. A recommendable textbook on this topic is W. Stallings: Cryptography and Network Security

Performance Modelling for Wireless Data Communication II. Lecturer Olga Bogoiavlenskaya (PetrSU)
The course is devoted to advanced studies of performance analysis of different technologies involved in wireless mobile data communication. Namely these are crosslayer performance of interaction between IEEE 802.11 protocols family and TCP over wireless links, moving style and routing in connection with performance of ad hoc net works. Last part of the course concentrates on the implementation of modelling and capacity planning approaches to wireless networking environments design.
